For the BCA Gallery, Texture developed a suite of interactive experiences built around the gallery's focus on universal design: the principle that environments and buildings should be accessible, functional, and comfortable for people of all abilities. Rather than explaining universal design through text panels, the interactives placed visitors in scenarios where they could experience its implications directly.
Visitors navigated scenario-based experiences where they made choices to optimise a space for accessibility and energy efficiency, seeing the outcomes of their decisions play out in real time. A companion career profiler helped visitors explore the range of career paths available within BCA, guiding them through the different roles and disciplines that contribute to Singapore's built environment.
Rather than explaining universal design in the abstract, the scenarios put visitors in the position of making decisions: optimising a space for accessibility, managing energy use, understanding the trade-offs involved in built environment choices. Seeing the outcomes of their decisions play out gave visitors a grasp of what universal design actually means in practice, not as a principle but as a series of deliberate choices.
The career profiler gave younger visitors a concrete picture of the range of disciplines that contribute to Singapore's built environment: from architecture and engineering to urban planning and sustainability roles. By guiding visitors through the options in relation to their interests rather than as a flat list, the tool made BCA's ecosystem of careers feel relevant and reachable.
Gallery interactive content typically has one job: explain something to someone who did not come in knowing what they would be asked to think about. All of the BCA experiences were designed with that constraint in mind, presenting complex built environment concepts through choices and outcomes rather than text, making the subject accessible to a general audience without simplifying its substance.
