ASJC Directory and Heritage Room

When Anderson Junior College and Serangoon Junior College merged in 2019 to form Anderson Serangoon Junior College, the new institution needed a way to honour both colleges' distinct histories while building a unified identity. Texture designed and built the digital interactive installation for the Directory and Heritage Room, creating a space where the merged institution's shared past was accessible, explorable, and alive.

The installation housed and presented directories, historical documents, and artefacts from both predecessor colleges, making decades of institutional history browsable and engaging for students and visitors who may only know one side of the merged story. The digital interface gave the room depth without requiring physical archive access, bringing records forward without diminishing their significance.

Digital Heritage Archive

The heritage archive brought together directories, historical documents, and institutional artefacts from both Anderson Junior College and Serangoon Junior College in a single navigable interface. The deliberate decision to preserve each college's history distinctly within the shared system meant that students from either predecessor school could see their own history represented and valued, not collapsed into a generic merged narrative.

Interactive Directory

The interactive directory gave students and visitors a way to navigate the college community across time: past students, staff, and the college's evolving identity from both predecessor schools through to ASJC. For a merged institution still building its shared culture, having a space where that community is visible and explorable is a practical tool for belonging, not just a decorative installation.

Institutional Continuity

Mergers can inadvertently create a dominant history and a marginalised one, particularly when institutions of different sizes or profiles come together. The installation was designed to resist that: equal representation of both schools' histories in the same space, accessible through the same interface, so that the sense of continuity that institutional memory provides was available to every student regardless of which college they had come from.
