Light to Night: City Tiles

City Tiles was a large-scale interactive living mural created for the National Gallery Singapore's Light to Night Festival 2020, a public arts festival that transforms the Civic District each year. The installation invited participants to contribute to a collective digital cityscape that grew with every visitor who engaged with it.

Each participant received a personal city tile representing their unique story and identity. Scanning a QR code revealed their tile and illuminated it within the broader cityscape, connecting individual participation to the collective artwork and making each person's contribution visibly part of the whole.

The culmination was a display of colour and animation representing the combined contributions of everyone who had taken part, turning the festival's civic neighbourhood into a canvas built from the community itself.

Personal City Tiles

The installation grew in real time as more visitors participated, with tiles accumulating into an evolving cityscape that changed throughout the festival and reflected the diversity of its audience.

Festival-Scale Public Art

Designed for the scale and public nature of Light to Night, the installation balanced technical interactivity with a visual result compelling enough to draw and hold a large outdoor audience in the Civic District.
